Day 3 - Farr 30 North Americans - 22 Jun 2014

Farr 30 Org - Farr 30 Nth Americans – 22 Jun 2014

Farr 30 Nth Americans Final Day

Two scheduled races remaining and two points separating the leaders coming into the final day of the 2014 Farr 30 North Americans. With light cloud cover there was concern that the breeze may not come in across English Bay. The warning signal for race 10 was on time at 10:30 and the breeze quickly built allowing for a clean start of the three lap windward leeward course. Throughout the race there were multiple position changes on each leg with Through taking line honors, Nefarious in second and Idiopathic taking third. Patricia had challenges in the lighter airs, coming in seventh and swapping the overall lead with Through allowing them a four point lead.

During the countdown to the final race (race 11) the wind veered and a quick line reset was done to get the yachts away. In the final minutes of the countdown an unsuspecting spectator on a kayak was informed of their impending predicament of being run down by a fleet of Farr 30 yachts they held station with perfect views of the start. With growing aggression on the line two boats were over (Idiopathic and M Power). With the light cloud cover clearing not only did the spectacular views improve but so did the wind. The battle for first overall was still on, however Through managed to pull another first with Patricia in second and Dopamine continuing her solid performance and came in third. These finish places in this race also reflected the overall top three standings of the regatta as listed below. On the final day in the final two races not only did the lead change (yet again) but so did many of the mid fleet positions with Project Mayhem fighting her way to forth and Idiopathic breaking the sixth equal deadlock to come in fifth. Nefarious picking up two places and 65_RedRoses one. With close racing throughout the regatta the final day of racing was make or break for all fleet positions.

Day 2 - Farr 30 North Americans - 21 Jun 2014

Farr 30 Org - Farr 30 Nth Americans – 21 Jun 2014

Day 2 of the Farr 30 North Americans in Vancouver started with mirror water across English Bay. By the time breakfast was over the city had started to heat up bringing with it a steady westerly breeze of 9 to 14knts which stayed through the five races of three windward leeward races for the day. A freighter threatened to park in the middle of the course but luckily they took the grandstand spot just off the top mark.

The day started with one point separating Through and Patricia so we knew it would be a well fought day. Round two of race five saw Through and Patricia neck and neck with a split at the leeward gate. Patricia took the favored north gate and Through taking the stronger breeze to the south. The breeze paid off with Through ahead on the cross. After their 9th, 10th and 11th places yesterday Idiopathic was making a comeback with a 3rd, while Through improved their lead with a first and Patricia consolidated a second.

Day 1 - Farr 30 North Americans – 20 Jun 2014

Day 1 of the Farr 30 North Americans kicked off with a steady Easterly, contrary to the forecasted gradient wind of a Southerly. Eleven Farr 30 yachts from Canada and the USA were chomping at the bit to get racing resulting in two boats being a little over zealous and OCS. After two windward leeward laps it was Patricia then Nefarious followed by a local, Through.

Time for a typical Otherly and a 180 wind shift. So up with the “AP” and anchor and move the race course to Spanish Banks for the second of what would be three courses throughout the day. The wind filled in well from the West and the second race got underway with the fleet pushing the line. Nefarious crossed first followed by Through and Project Mayhem.
